Printable Sudoku Tips
Sudoku Rules Overview
All 9×9 sudoku types (Classic, Killer, Samurai) follow the same basic rule: each row, column, and 3×3 box must contain numbers 1–9 without repetition. 12×12 uses numbers 1–12 divided into 3×4 regions, and 16×16 uses 1–16 — same principle, but with more symbols to track and a higher difficulty ceiling.
Beginner's Guide
New to sudoku or looking for kid-friendly puzzles? Start with 4×4 mini sudoku — only 16 cells (four 2×2 boxes) using numbers 1–4. The rules are identical to larger grids but far easier to pick up. Select "Classic" type and "Beginner" difficulty on this page to get 4×4 puzzles, perfect for children and first-time players to quickly grasp the core logic of sudoku.
Printing Recommendations
We offer high-quality exports in PDF, Word, JPG, PNG, and SVG formats. PDF is optimized for direct browser printing — choose "Fit to Page" in your print settings for crisp grid lines. Use the layout selector to flexibly print 1, 2, or 5 puzzles per page to suit different needs.
Solving Tips
Grab a pencil and eraser before you start — you'll want to revise as you go. Fill in the obvious numbers first, then scan each row, column, and region to eliminate impossible candidates. Beginners should start with "Beginner" or "Easy" difficulty to build confidence before tackling puzzles with many empty cells. Turn on the "Answer" toggle to include a full solution page and check your progress. If you prefer solving online, try our intelligent hint feature — it walks you through the next move step by step.
Advanced & Strategy
As your skills grow, progress through the difficulty ladder: Beginner → Easy → Medium → Hard → Expert → Extreme. What is the Blank Grid option?
The Blank Grid option, located next to the Answer toggle, generates empty sudoku grids without any pre-filled numbers. This is perfect for teachers who want to hand out blanks for classroom exercises, or for players who want to copy puzzles from elsewhere and solve them on printed sheets.

The Pencil Marks option (VIP feature) displays small candidate numbers inside each empty cell, helping you quickly eliminate impossible options during solving. This is especially useful for Hard or Expert-level puzzles, significantly reducing reasoning difficulty.
How do I set the number of pages to print?
Use the Pages slider below the puzzle preview to set anywhere from 1 to 10 pages. The number of puzzles per page is determined by your Layout selection (1, 2, or 5), so total puzzles = layout × pages. For example, 5 per page × 2 pages = 10 puzzles total.
